What Is EPCOT and Why Does it Matter?

Are you ready for a unique experience that will transport you to the future and beyond?

Look no further than EPCOT, the most futuristic and enlightening theme park in the world.

Unlike any other park, EPCOT offers a permanent World’s Fair type atmosphere that provides both entertainment and (dare I say it) education (just don’t tell the kiddos).

But let’s be real:

It’s mostly about the cool futuristic stuff.

From the moment you enter EPCOT, you’ll be immersed in a world of innovation and technological marvels.

Future World is the park’s centerpiece, featuring attractions that explore the possibilities of science and technology, transportation, energy, and communication.

With pavilions dedicated to space travel, sustainable energy, and cutting-edge technologies, you’ll get a glimpse of the future and what it could hold.

But EPCOT is not just about the future, it’s also about the world we live in now.

Have you always wanted to travel the world and see far-away places, but just couldn’t make it happen?

EPCOT gives you the ability to do it in just an afternoon.

The World Showcase is the park’s cultural epicenter, where you can explore the customs, traditions, and cuisines of different countries from around the world, staffed by cast members who are in most cases natives of those very countries.

From the stunning architecture of Morocco (overseen by King Hassan II himself) to the mouthwatering food in France, you’ll feel like you’re traveling the globe without ever leaving Florida.

As you make your way around EPCOT, you’ll notice that the park has undergone numerous updates and changes throughout the years.

The original concept for EPCOT was a utopian city of the future, but after Walt Disney’s passing, the park evolved into what we know today.

However, the park has always remained true to Walt’s vision of a place that celebrates the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise.

One of the biggest changes to EPCOT came in the mid-1990s when the park began to phase out its edutainment attractions in favor of more modern and thrilling experiences.

Although the park may have lost some of its educational focus, it gained a new sense of excitement and wonder that attracts visitors from around the world.

In recent years, EPCOT has continued to evolve and transform with the times.

The park is currently undergoing a massive redesign and expansion that will introduce new attractions and experiences while still maintaining the original vision and spirit of the park.

The redesign will introduce new neighborhoods to the park, including World Nature, World Celebration, and World Discovery, each with their own unique attractions and experiences.

One of the most exciting new additions to EPCOT is the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster, that opened recently.

This groundbreaking ride will feature a new storytelling coaster system that rotates 360 degrees to focus your attention on the action happening around you.

Another exciting new addition is the Journey of Water, inspired by the hit Disney movie Moana (opening in late 2023).

This walkthrough attraction will take you on a magical journey through the water cycle, where you’ll learn about the importance of protecting our planet’s most precious resource.

So why does EPCOT matter?

Because it offers a unique and enlightening experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

Whether you’re a science nerd, a foodie, or just looking for a fun day out with the family, EPCOT has something for everyone.

From the futuristic attractions in Future World to the cultural experiences in World Showcase, you’ll leave EPCOT feeling inspired and enlightened.

EPCOT’s Attractions

When it comes to Disney World, EPCOT is a park that stands out for its unique blend of entertainment and education.

EPCOT’s attractions are diverse, ranging from thrilling rides to educational exhibits, and everything in between.

In this section, we’ll take a closer look at some of the most popular attractions at EPCOT, including the newest ride, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

Popular Rides

EPCOT has several popular rides that are sure to get your heart racing.

If you’re looking for a thrill, you won’t be disappointed.

Test Track is a high-speed ride that takes you through a series of tests to see how your car performs.

Spaceship Earth is another popular ride that takes you on a journey through time, from the beginning of human civilization to the present day.

And let’s not forget about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the newest addition to EPCOT’s lineup of rides.

This roller coaster takes you on a wild ride through space, with twists and turns that will leave you breathless.

Educational Attractions

EPCOT is also known for its educational attractions, which are perfect for families with children.

The Journey of Water is a new exhibit that teaches visitors about the importance of water conservation.

The exhibit features interactive displays and activities that are both fun and educational.

And then there’s the Gran Fiesta Tour, a boat ride that takes you on a tour of Mexico, where you’ll learn about the country’s culture and history.

Unique Experiences

EPCOT is full of unique experiences that you won’t find anywhere else.

One of these experiences is Drinking Around the World, where you can sample alcoholic beverages from different countries.

Another unique experience is the Virtual Queue, which allows you to reserve a spot in line for popular rides without having to wait in line.

And if you’re a fan of Remy from the movie Ratatouille, you’ll love Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the newest ride at EPCOT.

This ride takes you on a journey through Gusteau’s restaurant, where you’ll shrink down to the size of a rat and navigate your way through the kitchen.

But that’s not all.

EPCOT is also home to Disney cast members who are knowledgeable about the park and its attractions.

Comparing EPCOT to Other Disney Parks

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World theme parks, you might be wondering which Disney park is the best Disney park.

While each of the Disney theme parks has its own unique charm and attractions, EPCOT is a park that stands out from the rest.

In this section, we’ll compare EPCOT to the other major attractions in Walt Disney World and help you decide if EPCOT is worth it for your family.

EPCOT vs. Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is the most popular of all the Disney parks, and it’s not hard to see why.

With classic rides like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and newer attractions like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, there’s something for kids of all ages.

However, Magic Kingdom is also the busiest park, which means longer lines and more crowded walkways.

On the other hand, EPCOT has a more relaxed atmosphere and fewer crowds.

While it doesn’t have as many rides as Magic Kingdom, it makes up for it with its educational exhibits and international pavilions.

EPCOT is a great choice for families who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the other Disney parks.

EPCOT vs. Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is the newest of the Walt Disney World theme parks, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most popular.

With attractions like Finding Nemo – The Musical and Kilimanjaro Safaris, Animal Kingdom is a great choice for families who love animals.

However, it’s also one of the hottest parks, which can make it uncomfortable for little kids.

EPCOT, on the other hand, has plenty of air-conditioned exhibits and attractions that are perfect for hot days.

It also has a wider variety of attractions, including roller coasters like Test Track and Soarin‘ (one of my all-time favorite attractions).

EPCOT is a great choice for families who want to experience a little bit of everything.

EPCOT vs. Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the park for thrill-seekers.

With attractions like the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror, it’s a great choice for older kids and adults.

However, it’s also one of the smallest parks, which means there are fewer attractions overall.

EPCOT, on the other hand, has a wider variety of attractions that are perfect for kids of all ages.

It also has some great dining options, including the Regal Eagle Smokehouse, which serves up some of the best barbecue in Walt Disney World.

EPCOT is a great choice for families who want to experience a little bit of everything.

And that’s not all.

EPCOT also has some of the most popular attractions in all of Walt Disney World, including Mission: SPACE, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Spaceship Earth not to mention the World Showcase that has attractions like the new Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

With so much to see and do, EPCOT is definitely worth a visit on your next trip to Walt Disney World.

Dining at EPCOT

When it comes to dining at EPCOT, you’re in for a serious treat.

From quick-service options to fine dining experiences, there’s something for every taste bud.

In this section, we’ll explore the best restaurants, quick-service options, and food offerings from different countries.

Best Restaurants

If you’re looking for a sit-down dining experience, EPCOT has plenty of options.

One of the best restaurants (my absolute favorite!) in EPCOT is Le Cellier Steakhouse in the Canada pavilion.

This dining room offers a cozy, rustic atmosphere and serves up some of the best steaks in all of the Walt Disney World resort and gourmet poutine to die for.

Another great option is the Hibachi at Teppan Edo in the Japanese pavilion. This is a traditional hibachi-style restaurant with a touch of Disney magic added in for good measure (and the food is outstanding!).

For a taste of the United Kingdom, check out the Rose & Crown Dining Room.

This dining room is located in the United Kingdom pavilion and offers traditional British cuisine.

Quick-Service Restaurants

If you’re short on time and looking for a quick bite to eat, EPCOT has plenty of quick-service options.

One of the best quick-service restaurants in EPCOT is Sunshine Seasons in The Land pavilion.

This food court offers a wide variety of options, including sandwiches, salads, and Asian-inspired dishes.

Another great option is La Cantina de San Angel in the Mexico pavilion.

This quick-service restaurant offers delicious tacos and nachos with a view of the World Showcase Lagoon.

One of my favorite quick service restaurants is Restaurant Marrakesh in the Moroccan pavilion (unfortunately temporarily closed). Not only is it a great value but the food is absolutely delicious.

Food Offerings from Different Countries

One of the best things about dining at EPCOT is the opportunity to try food from different countries.

Each of the World Showcase pavilions offers unique food options.

In the Canada pavilion, be sure to try the cheddar cheese soup and the filet mignon.

In the Mexico pavilion, don’t miss the churros and the margaritas.

In the United Kingdom pavilion, be sure to try the fish and chips and the sticky toffee pudding.

But that’s not all.

EPCOT also offers food and wine festivals throughout the year, where you can sample even more food from different countries.

During these festivals, you can try dishes from places like Greece, Italy, and Japan.

Dining at EPCOT is definitely worth it – arguably the greatest assortment of restaurants around!

With a wide variety of options, there’s most definitely something for everyone.

Whether you’re looking for a fine dining experience or a quick bite to eat, EPCOT has you covered.

And here’s the best part – you get to try food from different countries without ever leaving Disney World.

So, be sure to come hungry and ready to explore all that EPCOT has to offer.

Planning Your Visit

If you’re planning a trip to EPCOT, you want to make sure that you’re getting the most out of your experience.

In this section, we’ll cover the best time to visit EPCOT, the benefits of staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, how to navigate the park using the My Disney Experience App and Disney Genie, and how to use Lightning Lane and Individual Lightning Lane Reservations.

Best Time to Visit EPCOT

The best time to visit EPCOT is during the weekdays when the park is less crowded.

If you can, avoid visiting EPCOT on weekends or holidays when the park is at its busiest.

Another good time to visit is during the fall or winter when the crowds are generally smaller and the weather is milder.

Being in any of the parks during the blistering Florida summer is rough on anyone.

Keep in mind that the park hours can vary depending on the time of year, so make sure to check the schedule before you go.

Walt Disney World Resort Benefits for Disney Resort Guests

Staying at a Walt Disney World Resort has its perks, and one of them is the benefits that come with being a Disney Resort guest.

As a guest, you can take advantage of Extra Magic Hours, which allows you to enter the park early or stay late on select days.

You’ll also have access to complimentary transportation to and from the park, as well as the ability to make FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days in advance.

Navigating EPCOT with the My Disney Experience App and Disney Genie

The My Disney Experience App and Disney Genie are two powerful tools that can help you navigate EPCOT.

The My Disney Experience App allows you to view wait times for attractions, make FastPass+ reservations, and view park maps.

Disney Genie, on the other hand, is a personalized itinerary planning service that can help you plan your day at the park.

It can recommend attractions to visit, provide wait time estimates, and even make dining reservations.

Using Lightning Lane and Individual Lightning Lane Reservations

Lightning Lane is a new feature that allows guests to skip the regular standby lines for select attractions.

There are two types of Lightning Lane reservations: Individual Lightning Lane reservations and Lightning Lane selections.

Individual Lightning Lane reservations allow you to make a reservation for a specific attraction, while Lightning Lane selections allow you to make reservations for multiple attractions at once.

Keep in mind that Lightning Lane reservations are subject to availability and can sell out quickly.

Planning your visit to EPCOT can be a breeze if you know what to expect.

By following these tips, you can make the most out of your visit and experience everything that EPCOT has to offer.

Whether you’re planning a full day or a single day visit, using the My Disney Experience App and Disney Genie, and taking advantage of Lightning Lane and Individual Lightning Lane Reservations can help you navigate the park with ease.

So, get ready to have a magical time at EPCOT!

This ride takes you on an underwater adventure with Nemo and his friends.

It’s a great way to introduce your child to the wonders of the ocean.

Another great attraction for small children is Journey into Imagination with Figment.

It’s abbreviated from what it used to be, but this is a great one for the kiddos. This ride takes you on a journey through your imagination with Figment, a lovable purple dragon.

And you cannot pass up the opportunity to see Anna, Elsa and crew on Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion!

Another great low-intensity ride is Spaceship Earth.

This ride takes you on a journey through the history of communication, from cave paintings to the internet.

It’s a great way to teach your child about the history of communication and technology.

Attractions for Older Kids and Adults

While there is plenty of stuff to do at EPCOT for the lil’ ones, there’s also a LOT of stuff to do for the older kids and adults.

There are plenty of attractions that are perfect for older kids and adults.

One of the favorite rides for older kids and adults is Test Track.

This ride takes you on a journey through the world of automotive design and testing.

It’s a great way to experience the thrill of speed and technology.

Another great attraction for older kids and adults is Soarin’.

Special Considerations for First-Time Visitors

First, make sure to pick up a map of the park when you arrive.

This will help you navigate the park and find your way to your favorite attractions.

Second, make sure to arrive early.

EPCOT can get crowded, especially during peak season.

Arriving early will help you beat the crowds and experience more of the park.

It’s a great way to end your day at the park and experience the magic of Disney.
