What are the Height Requirements at Walt Disney World?

Walt Disney World is undoubtedly one of the most magical places in the world, particularly for kids. It, however, requires strict safety measures to keep the fun going. For example, some rides and attractions have minimum and maximum height requirements. And with that in mind, what are the Disney World height requirements?

The vast majority of Disney’s experiences are open for guests of all heights. However, several rides and attractions require a minimum height between 32 inches and 48 inches (81 to 122 centimeters) in order to ride the ride. Additionally, there are maximum height requirements for some of the slides at Disney’s water parks.

There is no one-size-fits-all for Disney’s for rides and attractions. Height requirements will vary by attraction so let’s dig a little deeper and get it all out on the table!

In total, the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando has 6 parks– 4 theme parks and 2 water parks. The parks boast a combined total of 99 experiences, most of which are open for guests of all heights.

At 48 inches (122 centimeters), you and your kids can enjoy every single ride and attraction at Disney’s parks. However, guests whose height falls between 44 inches (112 centimeters) and 47.9 inches are barred from 9 attractions, most of which are attractions are in Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park.

If your height falls in the 40- to 44-inch bracket, then you won’t be allowed on a total of 12 attractions.

35- to 38-inches aren’t allowed on 26 attractions

32 to 35-inches aren’t allowed on 27 attractions.

That’s still 70% of all the fun that Disney has to offer!

And you’ll find most of it at Magic Kingdom where a whopping 28 sights and attractions don’t have height requirements.

To keep things safe for the little ones, if your child is taller than 48 inches then they won’t be allowed entry to Ketchakiddee Creek at Typhoon Lagoon or Tike’s Peak at Blizzard Beach.

How Strict Is Disney On Height Requirements?

Walt Disney World is very strict on height requirements. Guests are not given wristbands or hand stamps. Instead, they are measured every time before being allowed entry to an attraction or ride.

In fact, Disney Cast Members are so strict with height requirements that they will measure adults who appear close to the minimum height. This mostly applies to people of short statue. Even if you’re a full-grown adult but don’t meet the minimum height, you won’t be allowed entry.

The most important reason for this strictness is safety. Allowing guests who do not meet minimum requirements on some rides and attractions would pose a safety risk; not just to the guest, but to other guests as well.

Therefore, expect your child to be measured at the front of each ride or attraction. That applies even if you measured the child at home and are sure of their height.

There’s usually a measuring bracket at the front of attractions that have height limits. A Disney Cast Member will request your little one to step over the bracket with their back flat against it while facing forward. The bracket has a marked minimum that you can clearly see.

Oftentimes you will find a second measuring location inside the queue where other cast members will double-check height measurements.

What To Do If Your Child Is Not Tall Enough for a Ride

If your child (or pretty much any member of your group) is not tall enough for a ride or attraction, you can use Disney World’s Rider Switch. This pass allows one adult to wait with the non-rider(s) as the others enjoy the attraction.

When they return, they can take over supervision of the non-rider and let the waiting guest enjoy their turn without having to wait in line. This is an excellent option if your group has at least one guest who doesn’t meet Disney World height requirements and at least two who do.
